JUSTIN BIEBER AND EMINEM LEAD THE WINS FOR THE 2011 BILLBOARD AWARDS
UMG Artists take home a total of 29 awards
Justin Bieber and Eminem were the top winners at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, each taking home a total of six awards. This was Bieber’s first ever Billboard awards show, and he was also this year's youngest nominee, taking home trophies for Top New Artist, Top Social Artist, Top Streaming Artist, Top Digital Media Artist, Top Pop Album and Top Streaming Song (video).
Eminem was another huge winner, taking the night’s biggest award for Top Artist as well as trophies for Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Song and Top Rap Album.
For second place there was a tie between UMG heavy hitters Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Taio Cruz who each won three awards.
U2 was awarded the special honor of Top Tour for their hugely successful, worldwide 360 degree tour.
Rihanna (and Britney Spears) kicked off the high-energy show with a remixed version of “S&M.” The Black Eyed Peas showcased their futuristic sound with a medley of “Just Can’t Get Enough” and “I Gotta Feeling.” Other performances included Nicki Minaj (with Britney Spears), Taio Cruz, Far*East Movement, OneRepublic and Mary J. Blige with Lil Wayne.
