Kanye West Takes the Lead in Grammy Award Nominations
Nominations for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards were announced last night via a live CBS telecast hosted by LL Cool J and featuring performances by top UMG artists.
This year’s top nominee was Kanye West who earned 7 nominations, the most of any artist. The 14 time Grammy winner is up for Song of the Year and Best Rap Album, among 5 other categories.
Lil Wayne had a strong showing with 5 nods and Drake, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna all received 4 nominations each.
Republic Nashville sensation The Band Perry is up for Best New Artist, along with Nick Minaj.
Both Rihanna and Lady Gaga are up for Album of the Year.
Lady Gaga kicked off the show in a bikini, black overcoat and ghoulish make-up performing her new single, “Marry The Night." She closed the telecast with a surprise collaboration, performing an impassioned rendition of “You & I” with Nashville sensations, Sugarland.
The Band Perry performed their song "Independence" before segueing into a soaring cover of Tom Petty's "Free Fallin.” Rihanna performed her huge hit “We Found Love” via satellite from London’s 02 Arena.
The awards will be held on Sunday, February 12th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
