Queens Of The Stone Age Play The “Deepest” Rock Show Ever
Queens Of The Stone Age played an exclusive one-of-a-kind live show, nearly ½ mile below ground level!!!
Lucky fans and media representatives from all over the world attended this unique event in an abandoned salt mine in Germany.
The “saviors of rock” played an exclusive live concert in the tunnel of an old salt mine in Sondershausen (Thuringia, Germany). 330 fans and media representatives from various countries showed up to witness this sensational live event at 700 meters below ground level!
Even though this event was much in demand, there were no tickets for sale, fans had to be lucky enough to win one of the competitions held in various media outlets.
German QOTSA devotees traveled in special fan buses from Munich, Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin, the respective home towns of the band members, to the Thuringian countryside. Upon arrival they were led to an elevator, which led them straight to the tunnel system 700 meters underground.
During their fantastic live show, Queens Of The Stone Age played a semi-acoustic set, presenting songs from their current album Era Vulgaris (#5 in the German charts), as well as a selection of rare compositions like, an incredible cover version of Billy Idol classic “White Wedding” – both fans and media reps went ballistic.
The “deepest rock show ever” required 20 euro-pallets of technical equipment and sound gear alone, and an entire km of cable, all of which was operated by some 20 technicians. Plus, the crew only had 48 hours to transform the tunnel into a venue for a rock show.
With the release of a special tour edition of QOTSA’s Era Vulgaris album, which will hit German stores next week (November 30), the band from California wants to thank their fans around the globe, delivering a holiday highlight that’s jam-packed with bonus material and further exclusive features.
The lavishly designed Digipak not only looks better than the original album, but comes with a wide range of extra contents, e.g. remixes, acoustic versions especially recorded for this release, and a bonus live CD of the now-legendary gig at Amsterdam’s Paradiso venue this july.
Furthermore, the new Queens Of The Stone Age single “Make It Wit Chu” will be available as a limited edition release on November 23rd. The single also includes previously unreleased b-sides such as the Billy Idol cover “White Wedding”.
The band played another sold-out show in Hamburg, on 21st November, which was also the final show of the German leg of their current tour. They will return to Germany in February 2008 for additional live shows.
